Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
I can certainly live with an additional bookmark so that a player always has access to his or her personal instance of an Age. I think it is overkill (I don't feel it adds sufficient value in tradeoff for the complexity) but I can understand that some players may feel it important not to be "cut of...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
Each person can only belong to one group at a time. (A group is an ad-hoc gathering for exploration only; it is not the same as a neighborhood or a chat channel, although the group should have a group chat channel because they may not all be in the same Age. If members of a neighborhood wish to gat...

Re: Community Project: The Great Shaft
If only it were that easy! However, the design of permanence in the game - the idea that things stay where a player puts them, and that unless that player invites another into their Age, things will stay as the player left them - is at odds with Uru being an MMO like other MMOs. As warmly as Rand s...

Stubborn pig-headedness, I believe, is the scientific term.Baron wrote:There's probably also a term for denouncing someone's suggestion because it would require changes to one's own preexisting suggestion, but I'm not sure what that is.

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
It does. All Myst Linking Books we've ever seen were activated AFTER construction on Myst was finished. I'm not sure what you mean by "activated". As far as we know, the Myst book presented at the beginning of Myst had last been used when Atrus fell through the fissure on Riven, at which point ther...

Re: Client: StarLion's KI Overhaul
Was there a "ignore chat from people if not on my list", if not we can add one :) This would partly solve the issue, however you would still have to contend with people on your buddy list who spam you. Sadly programming does'nt solve who you pick as buddies ;) No, but it should involve keeping the ...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
I don't think the state of linking panel movies ever needs to change, unless it's on a new linking book. My understanding is that canon Linking Books always show the Age as it was when the Linking Book was activated . That doesn't make any sense though... I'm reasonably certain that canonically, th...

Re: Community Project: The Great Shaft
What I don't like about Alahmnat's approach is that one has to go through the (public) Cleft, and down into the Volcano, to get to .... a different version (an instance) of the Cleft. This does not seem sensible to me, and I think it is more likely to cause confusion in players than what I've sugge...

Re: Community Project: The Great Shaft
My intention was to have the Descent be several different sections, and we'd probably have to do a fair amount of fiddling to see what sort of divisions would give us optimal performance without loading a new section every few feet. If MOUL's version of the Plasma engine has better support for only ...

Re: Community Project: The Great Shaft
By all means, Stranger :). Now, for my rambly description of the Descent: What follows is my take on how the Descent should be designed. I am open to input and suggestions on this, so please don't take my word as law here. The Descent starts in the Volcano caldera, and is functionally/visually ident...
