Re: Replacing Relto

The D'ni Historian in me says the KI is for communication not Linking. I don't have any historians in me, but I got the impression from Uru that the KI was heading toward being an all-purpose device. We've seen it used for authentication (door entry in Gahreesen, book access in Nexus) It can serve ...

Re: Replacing Relto

That's a very good point. Replacing the book before (re)entering dangerous areas would have to be enforced somehow, just as one cannot visit Ae'gura without a KI. If we put the panic-link capability in the newly-discovered "KI Plus" and used Nexus as the panic link destination, the system could be ...

Re: Replacing Relto

First of all, thanks for the reminder to keep the discourse civil. The discussion is taking some cool new turns, but I want to say a little bit more about book logic, just to make sure we don't rule out some worthwhile options. It is possible to view Yeesha's accomplishments as "magic," but I do not...

Re: Replacing Relto

There is no way to get around the disappearing books IC. Sure there is. There always is. Perhaps they are in airtight envelopes, and treated with a substance that causes them to burst into flame shortly after exposure to air. Perhaps the creators of the book (the DRC, or the entity we have to repla...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

To what extent are we trying to avoid the creation of a new Age for this purpose? After (finally, because I am lazy) installing the Uru Library Manager, I have been impressed by how good fan-created Ages can already look. It solves a number of problems at once if we drop new Explorers in a place whe...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

The (admittedly anecdotal) feedback from the prior online versions of Uru suggested that a lot of people want that. "If this is supposed to be an MMO, why am I stuck alone looking for these cloths? Why can't I meet up with my friends now?" Etc, etc. Those of us who loved Myst and Riven for what they...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing

For the sake of being consistent, should the Relto Bookshelf Books also take you to the public instance if you use the Linking Panel (making it super easy to attend a public party in Minkata, say), with Personal and Group bookmarks available, as with Books you'd find in the City? Sounds great to me...

Re: Cookie cutters (pubs and 'hoods)

Perhaps it's worth suggesting a fully realized object-placement capability? I mean something like the systems in houses in other online worlds such as Lord of the Rings Online, City of Heroes or There. Within your apartment in D'ni, you should be able to place chairs, tables, and so on. In a neighbo...

Re: Community Project: The Great Shaft

Now I'm feeling very conflicted about the ideas here. I'm convinced that the new player experience has to be extremely simple and inviting. The proposals here might be entertaining for puzzle aficionados who were too impatient for Uru's original pace, but I don't think they're simple enough not to s...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

Actual concept art! I'd say that's an important milestone in this discussion. And it's good, too. :) But... after a day of further thought about these concepts, and also seeing where the discussion is heading on the Great Shaft thread, I am wondering if we could consider "Where to Begin" at a more f...
