Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Well, I would definitely agree that pre-rendered animated linking panels (like in Myst V and Drizzle) would be an awesome improvement, that was one of the biggest disappointments of Uru for me, the static panels... And for the linking particles, i see them all moving along an arc towards the ...
Re: Cloth?
The animations in Myst V were not prerendered, all of the cutscenes in Myst V were done in real-time, so we know at least that version of plasma supports cloth. Also I think switching the physics engine could have benefits, but I remember when cyan first switched Uru to physX from havoc...it was pre...
Re: Cloth?
Also along similar lines (I think it would be related) - real hair. As in, flowing hair that isn't just a block sitting on your head. That would really help out everyone with long hair who hates ponytails
Cloth?
I know that the Myst V version of the plasma engine supported dynamic cloth (as seen in the clothing of Esher and Yeesha), is this supported in the MOUL plasma engine?
This is definitely a feature I'd like to see, along with more realistic & dynamic avatars...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
I don't think the particles need to be so detailed that they need to be re-computed after every customization. A general approximation of the avatar's shape should be enough to give the effect....I like your proposed idea for how it would work though

Next add a bit of a wind into the cleft age so when the player releases the brake on the power mill, it has a reason for starting without having to head up to the surface to give it a push. I always found it odd anyway that it kept spinning without any wind anyway?! The reason it doesn't start spin...

Re: Controls
I use the directional buttons for movement too, I prefer having WASD to use for chatting and stuff.
Also, I use 3p mostly. This is because Cyan has said that they designed their ages with 3p in mind, and then added 1p on as an extra later...

Average number of hours per week that you can devote to MORE development == I would gladly devote lots of time. Whether you are a student, employed (part/full time), or both == Student Number of months/years experience in the following areas: General programming (C++/Python) == I'm just barely star...

Re: Assets: Hardware/Facilities
I'd like to offer my server as well, though it isn't much, compared to the other stuff being offered up. Celeron D 2.93ghz 512mb of RAM 40gb HD (IDE, 5200rpm) Currently running Fedora Core 2 (it's serving Until Uru currently, hence the old operating system) I actually have a spare copy of Windows se...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Two more thoughts on the realtime panels. First of all, what would happen with books that are instanced? For example, the Teledahn book in front of the Library, which I believe links to the personal or hood instance. If two people from two different hoods were to look at the book, it would have to s...
