Re: How to Successfully Revive Game Franchises
@Stucuk, your idea that some control would prevent the problems I foresee is common thought. We see that idea among those in the political environment that believe in strong central government. Freedom, growth, and innovation grows explosively when the constraints of a top down system are removed. F...

Re: How to Successfully Revive Game Franchises
I hate to agree with you... but you are mostly right. Telling Cyan what to do or direction to take doesn't ever seem to work, but some have found how to entice Cyan into things. Whether that enticing effort is worthwhile is debatable. For age creators and story tellers being true to the story is imp...

Enforcement
Finding some reasonable way to enforce rules and standards is a problem that extends beyond the Uru community. Other game communities are looking for solutions. An example is in an article titled: Pricing Games According to Player Behavior The title says most of it. The surprising part is that Valve...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
Heek type games would be nice. But programming games into Uru/CWE is not something many fans can do. As to cheap… that was the point. But, look through the flash games on the net. They can be anything one imagines. So, creative types could create D’ni viewer like devices or smart phones. I’ve never ...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
I had forgotten the D'ni Web. Now the open source WebKit is used to achieve what we discussed in that thread. Webkit is the root of the display I use for the Ahnonay Map in SL. One can easily make a laptop that can browser the entire Internet or limit it to a site or page. I would think linking via ...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
This is an interactive Ahnonay Map I have in Second Life. I made it into a wall hanging, just because I was playing. I could have put it in a table top or anything else I wanted to build. As I activate the Flash animation those around me can see it changing. It is interactive with all those in the a...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
We could probably add a bunch of games if we were able to display web pages (flash etc) in world.
SL is working its way through the feature so one could look at their code to see how it is done. The pages are interactive and Flash hot spots work.
It does create some security risks.

Re: deal with the troublemakers
On MOUL Forum we have had discussions about mute + invisibility. Some do want that feature. Here bug reporting is headed toward Mantis, Bugzilla, and whatever... I'm not sure what the final decisions are, if any. But, often the same system is used for feature requests, at least in several open sourc...
