Re: Trust - Split from: MOSS Test Shards

At some point the logic (as in how to) of server side security is going to be looked at. MustardJeep has brought up a problem in the Clustering thread. If multiple private servers are to form a net, the requirement that they must use the same private key destroys the idea of security. The more peopl...

Re: Trust - Split from: MOSS Test Shards

If one uses a public key to control access to the data then anyone can access the data. Whether you place the public key in a wiki or bury it in the code, people can retrieve the key and use it as they please. If two key sets are used, it would seem you still have the same problem. Everyone is going...

Re: MOSS Test Shards

I think one can look at SL and see how viewers (the client side) have developed. I expect we will see a similar set of preferences in our Uru community. I think DarK is right, players will appreciate it. An often asked for feature is to add what we call grid (shards) hopping support. This is where t...

Trust - Split from: MOSS Test Shards

You may want to split this off to its own thread... which is ok. I think it may fit here, so... As we proceed some of the security issues from other places using open source will start to come up. Players will want to know who complied what and how to know which compiled executable they are download...

Re: Getting the Ball Rolling

Here is the repaired link to the Emerald article. http://blog.nalates.net/2010/08/15/emerald-viewer-scandal-erupts-again/ When I moved the blog the extended characters (in this case … in place of ...) that were originally handled in the old blog fail in the new one. I’m slowly finding them. I never ...

Re: What needs to be done with the Plugin?

There is a lot posting in OU these days. It is hard to keep up. I may have missed some points in regard to the plugin. Presumably OU wants to be able to distribute a working copy of the 3DS version of the plugin. This means either proper licensing for included libraries or replacement of the librari...

Re: Getting the Ball Rolling

Marten’s view of environment has a great deal of merit. Anyone that has read Carl Rogers’ studies and research in psychology understands that our perceptions of and attitudes about a person shifts their behavior. Studies revealed a feedback loop directly related to attitudes held with a certainly si...

Re: Getting the Ball Rolling

Accepting contributions and merging code is pretty basic. Review of code is going to take place at some point. I pay much more attention to development in Second Life viewers and OpenSIM code. Over the last two years I've seen two major exploits. One was solely in the open source side of viewer (cli...

Visual Planning?

As I read the various BIG :) plans I realize how much there is to be done. It is all exciting, movement at last. I'm taking a shot at shifting how OU communicates with the community. I'll suggest that OU has the rep of being hard to navigate because of the orientation of people that set OU up. That ...
