Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

Having a "token" of some sort that a player can choose to pick up to indicate their intent to go with a group is the most obvious mechanism, but you need to make sure that the player understands that they are making a choice and are aware of the options - A box of pin badges with instructions on th...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

Well the dirt parking lot is pretty much the same idea as the town just different location. However a dirt lot would be far easier to create...but on the other hand would probably be less interesting to walk though. True. The parking lot is intentionally boring (in a mysterious way, of course), as ...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)

How about my plan? http://wiki.openuru.org/index.php?title=Starting_Point:_Gloa_Plan Minimally invasive, and I think it balances speed and mystery well. You can complete the journey just as in ABM, with all the mystery and training that gives. However, you can also get quickly to Relto/populated ar...

Re: Neighborhoods - What should we do?

Gahreesen is, right now, the only place a player can pick a KI from (don't mind the descent part, that's just my idea). Picking up a KI isn't a must, a player can explore the game without it. But I want to show the players they can't go far without it. If we take Gahreesen out of some of the 'hoods...

The stranger wrote:Gahreesen must be there always. If every descent has a KI dispenser, than Gahreesen is the last stop.
Uh, could you explain more? I'm not sure I'm understanding your reasoning here.

Re: Neighborhoods - What should we do?

What would make a 'hood better? First, random 'hood maker. Players will get a random 'hood every time they open one. Random building places, random clock place, random bridge place, random random random. They will be able to choose: the place in the D'ni they want the 'hood in (up high to near the ...

Re: Neighborhoods - What should we do?

Anyway, switching from the "bevin" topic (and random thoughts of how did the D'ni deal with fires?) What could make 'hoods better places to group together? Perhaps have it place some of the books in a special place in the 'hood instead of having a link in the bookshelf? This would allow easier shari...

Re: Hands and arms

Interesting. Have you seen any virtual world where AV’s handle things in the way you hope Uru could? I haven't. I'm hoping maybe someone else has? I also suspect they use a oval or capsule shaped object around the AV as a collision detector for the AV, which is why hands do not effect collisions. TH...

Re: Neighborhoods - What should we do?

I agree about the whole "bevin" part.

For KI coordinates, is there a certain "region" we know them to be in? If not, can we just take a "chunk" of coordinates solely for 'hoods? How much room would it take up? etc.

Hands and arms

Since basically when Uru started, people have been asking for use of their hands and arms, instead of having to push things around with their feet. The answer has always been that it's simply too complicated - either we'd need a bunch of special animations for each object, or some things would look ...
