Re: Phase 0.5 Server net to form a Shard (absolute basics)
It would be interesting to spread the shard across the world. Yeah, I'm far from being expert on these matters, but it was a thought I had during the "0 seconds remaining" issue that distributed "access points" may have helped some of those folks plagued by high latency connections to the MO:UL ser...

Re: Phase 0.5 Server net to form a Shard (absolute basics)
Just for comparison sake, I checked today with the hosting service I use (a UK datacentre), for their pricing on fully dedicated servers (i.e. not "virtual" servers). They offered quite a few options for Windows Server 2003 platforms, so I've just picked one example from the lower end of the scale t...

Any thoughts on having a "custodian/editor" for each wiki article - just to kind of moderate and distill the input on the "discussion" tab into the full article page?
Edit: Possibly want to edit "MediaWiki:Sidebar" and add a link back to the forums?

Re: How would deep linking be received?
My view is that once you publish something on a publicly accessible internet site, then you have to expect people to link to it. It's the fundamental nature of the web. Copying things from another website or creating links that bypass password protected folders is a different matter, but just creati...

Re: Phase 0.5 Server net to form a Shard (absolute basics)
I guess we've got threads on Database and Servers, but nothing that specifically focusses on the composition of a "game server" as an overall entity, so I see this as a valid topic. This thread focuses on the absolute basic, get the data as is, and slapping it on a server ready to drive and go crazy...

Re: Assets: Prerequisite Software
MS visual Studio Express edition is free to everyone, ... I had a look at the Visual C++ Express edition a wee while back when I was on a different mission. If I recall, there was some severe (to me) limitations in what you could build with it, e.g. you could build a Windows MFC app, but not a cons...

Me too. I thought the fence was some kind of challenge. And it was ages before I looked behind the sign at the start point for a journey cloth.walts wrote:... I spent a lot of time trying to get through/over the fence around the volcano looking for the tunnel entrance before I caught on.

Re: Assets: Prerequisite Software
Hmm..., I've got an Enterprise edition of MS Visual Studio, but it's quite an old copy now, so maybe not that useful :? Which version ? Visual Studio 97  - I said it was an old copy! Another point - some of the ALCUGS and similar tools will likely be redundant (like the PAK unpackers, etc.),...

Re: Idea for improving performance in public spacing
I understood it as "is it feasible to randomise the link-in point through the city" Agreed. I was modifying the question to be more consistent with The Art. I don't think it will change anything for the collisions as the avatars don't collide with others avatars. You're quite correct. "Collisions" ...

Hmm..., I've got an Enterprise edition of MS Visual Studio, but it's quite an old copy now, so maybe not that useful :? Python is downloadable, but I'm not sure which version is appropriate: I guess we won't be able to firm up on what's needed until Cyan publish details, unless some folks here have ...
