Yes, but I guess the question becomes "is it feasible to randomise the precise link-in point by 3 or 4 feet?" That may reduce the object collisions, and simplify evaluating what is renderable. I don't know how much of a help that is, though.

I'll follow: Average number of hours per week that you can devote to MORE development == 4-6 (I can probably only manage some weekend evenings right now) Whether you are a student, employed (part/full time), or both == Full time employed Number of months/years experience in the following areas: Gene...

Re: Assets: Hardware/Facilities

Running a public server means (presuming the MOUL architecture isn't too different from UU or Alcugs) running one or more auth servers which will allow players to login, one or more lobby servers that manage connections, messages, linking, etc, and one or more data servers that actually serve you t...

Re: Phase 2 - First "fixes"

... I would put my effort into understanding the backend load distribution and network utilization to work toward making a cloud of smaller servers (residential DSL-sized) workable. I'd be keen to see that avenue explored. walts posted typical dedicated server prices of around US$120 per month, and...

Phase 2 - First "fixes"

Once the initial hurdle of getting a working implementation of database/server/client has been passed, what are the most troublesome issues that need to be addressed? I guess in time this might want split out into seperate discussions, e.g. Client issues, Server issues, KI/User Interface, etc. (poss...

So, how did the Mac version work then? I'm not being sarcastic ;) - I really don't know. Was that another emulation rather than a port?

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books

I think that realtime panels are going to be very difficult. Not really. But the renderring will probably have to be done by the server then sent to the player. That will increase the bandwidth usage (with more lag). Technically the rendering will be done by the client, but the server will require ...

Re: OpenURU.org Tools

I'd go for mediaWiki too. In part because I'm comfortable with using it, in part because most people are famliar with navigating Wkipedia, but also because there is a ready pool of extensions available if necessary, much like phpBB.

Re: Outline of what needs doing

Maybe we can start by building a checklist (kept updated in the top post?) of things that need done, things that'll need examined or checked once Cyan release their material? (I use the word "material" because I hope there will be documentation as well as code :) )

System Concepts - Forum Purpose

The following hopefully expresses the reasoning behind the creation of the System Concepts forum, and what it hopes to achieve. Firstly, I guess the forum title is bit vague: System and sub-system are somewhat amorphous terms - I was struggling to come up with something succinct and "System Concepts...
