Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
Pulling text from the web is already possible in journals in UAM ages. D'Lanor made this possible and the system is in use in Shell 415 and Skysong. As a fallback, basic text is hardcoded into the Python, so if an explorer chooses not to enable network access they still get some text (sufficient to ...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
Allowing some way of web content to be brought into the Cavern opens up content-creation to explorers who can create IC content in word and image but not as full-blown ages. It enables more of us to take part in creating story and puzzles. It could provide support for events such as language or hist...

Re: Project: D'ni Social Area
EDIT: Just had the fanciest idea - have tables with imagers built in, combining GUI and 3d view. But that would require a good explanation of why there are so many working imager tables! Imagers can be repaired -- Neolbah included the repair of a wall imager from bits in its story background (we wa...

Re: Building & Testing forum
Edit: In fact, I'd suggest that the whole "Open Uru Infrastructure Projects" section is a bit redundant - I'd probably want to move ... Myst/Uru-Style Hypergrid & Open Simulators into the "Open Uru Creative & Community Projects" section ("Community Projects" seems adequately all-encompassing to all...

Re: Devokan: places for story-telling (OOC)
Looking back over the last year, I've personally found the story planning and telling by forum thread the more fruitful way of working. A blog was started, but I've found that hard to keep up to date. Forum threads were easier, and kept a sense of a story developing over time (I found the blog posts...

Re: Devokan hosting on OSgrid
Over the past year we've learned a lot. The main cluster of Devokan regions is around OSgrid reference 10625,10625, with other standalone regions scattered throughout the grid. The connected cluster currently includes home-hosted regions run by Filbert Holmer, then two hosted VPSs from the same prov...

Re: 'Dedicated machines' needed, not virtualisation?
Revisiting this thread a year later, I am now running 15 regions on a hosted virtual machine -- admittedly about half of these are 'sea' or lightly built on to enable the main areas (which have between 5k to 7k prims) to 'breathe'. We don't get vast crowds; the regions tend to be visited by solitary...

Re: Order of forums on Board Index
That looks to be a good reorganisation to me.
For the Hypergrid project, that might be a mixture of Infrastructure and Creative, though. Does that matter? And the OSgrid bit would fall under Open Source!
