Accessing the OpenUru.org Minkata Test Shard
Posted: Wed Dec 21, 2011 5:31 pm
We are happy to announce the opening of the OpenUru.org Minkata Test Shard to the general community. The test shard will be the place where programming (and hopefully in the future, content) contributions to open source Uru projects can be experienced by players, and provide an opportunity for players to submit problem reports about those contributions. Exposing changes, fixes, and new features through public use of the shard is an essential step in identifying problems before those contributions are passed back to Cyan for incorporation into the public Myst Online Uru Live: Again game servers.
About expectations:
Please note that the test shard is not intended to be used for long-term game play. It may go up and down unexpectedly and without much prior announcement, and substantial changes such as vault wipes are very possible. The shard will also probably be unavailable except during testing periods (which will probably be measured in weeks). So please continue to use the official MOULa game servers for regular game play, and continue to contribute to the CAVCON funds there to provide support for MOULa.
The content of the Minkata Shard will change from time to time depending upon the current set of features being tested. Threads in this section will be posted announcing the current state of the shard, and what the testing goals are for that particular test period.
How to access the shard:
Please go to the OpenUru.org Foundry and follow the Create Account link in the OpenUru.org Minkata Testing Shard section. Complete the forms to create an account. Use your real email because you need to receive confirmation email from the sign-up system. After you confirm you really exist, you'll receive a link to the web page describing how to download and run the game.
Once you are in the game on the test shard, go through some of the basics (Avatar setup, grabbing a KI, etc). If you have favorite easter eggs or glitches you know about in MOULa, try them to see if they are present and behave identically to MOULa. The current build of the game will likely be a bit slower than MOULa, as we have enabled a lot of debugging output in the client, and that takes time while the game is running.
We look forward to your help in bringing improvements to open source Uru and MOULa!
