Don't let the file/socket behavior deter you. Solaris/Linux/X/Open systems have sendmsg()/recvmsg() capabilities to pass file descriptors between processes on the same host.

I found nothing on Solaris but finally in the Linux unix(7) man page, I see a SCM_RIGHTS message type, with even an example in cmsg(3). Sure enough, Linux has cooked up something. Oh hey, now that I know where to look I have it on my BSD box too! Well, cool, I'm glad to have learned that. Thanks!

Hi all, First post here.

This looks to be interesting. I can only hope we can get this running on Linux. I plan to be assisting in this process. I am currently a sys admin and work in a software shop. Who knows, i can probably convince some of the guys in the office to help with the project.
