Wiki Upgrade

We're putting in a couple of extensions for the Wiki, so while doing that, might as well bring the wiki software itself up to date. You might find the wiki down at some point during this evening. It'll be a little hit and miss when. Sorry for the unpredictable interruption in service.

The wiki has successfully been upgraded to 1.15.1. The extensions ParserFunctions and Cite were installed with it.

A wiki upgrade to version 1.19.2 is imminent. If you plan to edit, please also save your work offline until you see an upgrade completion notice here.

Never fear, the wiki is here! The upgrade is complete. This one was a significant upgrade and a labor of love is the only way to explain the effort behind it. Big thanks to Mac_Fife for developing the OpenUru Vector skin.

This completes the software upgrade trifecta of the forums, blogs, and wiki.

The Mediawiki software is next in line for an overdue upgrade from version 1.19 to version 1.24. They will drop support for 1.19 in May. This will get us ready for an upgrade to version 1.25 at about the same time.

This upgrade is about as complex as the forum upgrade because of our customizations - namely the need to revalidate or redevelop our phpBB-based authentication, wiki-based mini-CMS that handles the site's home pages, and the site navigation banner and menu. The upgrade, sans site navigation, now works on the test server, but there will be an attempt to include the same revised banner that the forums received. That still needs to get done. The Mediawiki software is less accommodating to such things.

This is, again, set on the OpenUru.org volunteer, task-oriented time scale of "when it's done" (soon...ish).

The site navigation header and menu has stabilized, so it will next be integrated into the wiki. Coming soon! The Foundry is also a possibility.

The wiki will be read-only tomorrow at some point and possibly through the weekend, or until it can be upgraded to the current version.

The site navigation header and menu will be absent following the upgrade until it can be reintroduced. Links to other OpenUru.org resources will continue to be available from the wiki sidebar.

The wiki upgrade to version 1.24.2 is complete. Due to the significant version upgrade, it will remain in read-only mode until verification is complete.

Please check your favorite parts of the wiki to make sure everything is still intact. Report any troubles here.

The site navigation header and menu will be absent until they can be reintroduced. "OpenUru.org links" to other OpenUru.org resources are available in the usual wiki sidebar in the left margin.

Footnote: Some cleanup has been performed: The "squee" subdomain and wiki has been removed. This was the original wiki workspace when CWE was being prepared for release to open source. It became the public wiki upon release of open source.

Looks OK to me so far except for:
  • Feels like too many items in the "OpenUru.org links" side bar, or else they could do with being nested into some kind of hierarchy
  • Sidebar menus are no longer collapsible. I know this is MediaWiki's preferred default nowadays, but I think it sucks.
For the latter, I suggest adding this to LocalSettings.php:

Code: Select all

wgVectorFeatures['collapsiblenav']['global'] = true;
