I've created a custom profile field for testing, visible only to admins, to be used to translate the user's phpBB username to a corresponding and valid wiki username. We should be able to use this as a clean solution, based upon existing elements and UI, to improve the Auth_phpBB extension.
If Mac_Fife likes this solution, and it is workable, users having a problem with wiki logons caused by incompatibilities between phpBB and wiki usernames will be able to request a valid username for the wiki. That username will be as similar as possible to the phpBB username. e.g., "Mac_Fife" on phpBB becomes "Mac Fife" on the wiki.
