In the time since WordPress MU was first evaluated, MU has become a standard part of WordPress now known as Multisite. Wordpress is very popular and does a good job for users and admins alike, so it is accepted and the evaluation is closed.
The current WordPress database is fine and will remain. It will not be wiped.
