The WordPress 3.0 Beta 1 is now available and they say "Yes, WordPress and WordPress MU have merged." So look forward to standard multisite support in WordPress 3.0 to be installed here when a final release (non-Beta) is officially available.

Wordpress MU has been upgraded to Wordpress MU 2.9.2. And then upgraded again to Wordpress Multisite 3.0.3.
