Standards For Discussion & Debate: Preamble

Post by admin »

The purpose of this project should be self-explanatory from its title. It intends to be a proposal; a suggestion - nothing more. It is a project using OpenURU.org resources. It is not an internal or binding project for use by OpenURU.org. It is a framework offered by participants for anyone to use as they see fit.

It is with some irony that I lay out some rules for a project which sets out to determine them.

The Forum Rules link is in the pink bar near the top of this page. Pay attention to rule #1 (the only rule) of this domain, website and forums - Do no damage. Supposed-rule #2 simply elaborates on rule #1. Considering the nature of this discussion project and how prone it might be to produce ironic, counter-productive discussion, posts will be closely monitored and strictly enforced to follow the spirit of the project.

The managers of this project stand on no higher moral ground than anyone else. They are no more or less wise than you. They don't know any more or less than you. They simply had the motivation and initiative to request resources for this project. In my book, motivation and initiative count for a lot, or at least management of a project in which they believe. That puts them into a mutual position of accountability, responsibility and respect. Please honor it.

While the administration of OpenURU.org desires to be transparent and open to all members, it does not prescribe the policies of resident projects. Projects specify their own policies and OpenURU.org will not interfere so long as they act lawfully and within the domain rules. If you have a complaint or a disagreement, please put it in the form of a respectful, constructive request so that it is clear what you want, and that what you want is not simply to complain, but to contribute with ideas and alternatives.
