Privacy & Chat Logs

Post by Nalates »

The privacy issue has gotten interesting over on MOUL...

The thread has brought up the matter of privacy and chat logs. I'm pretty sure the MOUL forum and ToC for MOULa do not address the issue.

The ToS for SL requires the express permission of all involved in the chat before the chat log can be posted. It is not heavily enforced. But getting involved in a controversy about not having permission can put your account at risk.

Forum information is very public. In game conversations are much more limited. Only those in game and nearby get to see the chat.

What is the best way to handle chat logs?

Requiring all people to consent allows a single holdout to create an issue.

And in a special circumstance, if one does not have, say Fred's, permission and wants to publish the log, is it ok if they remove the name and other ID'ing comments and then post the log?

What about major RP events, special circumstances like a Cyanist visit, controversies that migrate from the Cavern to the forum? Can one person holdout and block the posting?

What is proof of consent/permission?
