Project-X FAQ

Post by Mac_Fife »

I have the feeling that we may need a FAQ page to go with Project-X at release. Something to answer the obvious questions that will arise, such as "Where do I find the sources?", "What is the deal with licensing?", "Why are there empty folders?", "How do I build...?", etc.

I'm suggesting that if folks post Q's and A's that seem relevant to their own fields in this thread, then I'll try to compile them into a page, probably for the wiki - the wiki has a hyperlinked TOC by default which makes it a bit easier for creating FAQ.

You snagged some of my questions, Mac. ;)

Does Cyan actually know you're doing this?

I want to play NOW. Where do I download the game?

Is it now legal to run a public shard?

Is it now legal to run a public (or private) shard using the "Complete Chronicles" or "Until Uru" codebase?

I want to set up a shard. How do I download and run a server?

Where's the Cyan server download?
(Cyan needs to do more work on it - it won't be soon.)

What's this MOSS thing?

Does MOSS grow bigger when it Drizzles?

Where do I get the content?
(Btw, I've confirmed with Mark that MOULa will be the content server for now...)

What's the license on the content? (...and there is no content license yet.)

Of course not. It grows bigger when the stone stops rolling! And MOSS does not need Drizzles to grow.

:D

And as long as The Stones keep rolling, then I'm not getting old 8-)

But seriously, the questions are great. Now we just need some answers to go with them!

I transcribed most of the questions listed above onto a FAQ subpage off the CyanWorlds.com Engine page: http://squee.openuru.org/index.php?titl ... Engine/FAQ

I've had a stab at providing answers to most of these, but please feel free to edit/amend/re-write as you see fit. A few things probably need dedicated articles to fully explain - those should be relatively apparent in reading over the FAQ as it stands.

I'll take a look over the weekend now that some of the time pressure is off.

I would not say there is "no content license". There is one. It's in the MOULagain EULA. There is just no license to allow us to modify or redistribute content.

What are my open source license (GPLv3) responsibilities as a user, developer or server operator (e.g. shard owner)?

What if I'm an age (world) builder?

It'd be nice if folks would suggest answers as well as questions ;)
