Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
You could even maybe stretch the caption-beneath-linking-panel concept to other Linking Books. For instance, that would solve the Kemo/Gira problem by showing the player whose garden they're linking to. Of course, this will put Yeesha magic on D'ni/DRC books. But the entire concept of instancing is ...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
Does it mean that you can't go to you own Relto without asking the age owner ? No. the Relto Book interface lets you choose whose Relto to go to, among your own and anyone whose party you're in. Here's a (very, very) rough mockup of my interface (click for big version): http://75thtrombone.com/link...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
Awesome graphic, Christian. However, I don't think that implementation is very intuitive. The big bundle immediately appears to represent the different members of Christian's party. The separation and border on the top bookmark make it look like party leader, to which the other bookmarks are subject...

Re: Replacing Relto
because this game has emphasized choice when little is contained within. I think developing fundamental choices and branching effects of decisions is one of many things which can make this game popular. Keep in mind that the traditional MMO has many "choices" in the form of race, profession, etc. w...

Re: Replacing Relto
Oh no, now I wasn't trying to quash the talk or deflate anyone's spirits about changes we might make in the future. (Not exactly, anyway.) I was just expressing my opinion that it's not a wise idea to be considering, especially at the moment.

Re: Replacing Relto
Frankly, I'm bored to death with the whole Yeesha/DRC dichotomy. Even if Yeesha vs. DRC were a good thing to carry over to open-source Uru, it's not like there's going to be anyone around to actually play the DRC members in any official capacity. Even if Yeesha vs. DRC were the easiest thing in the...

Re: Instancing: A wiki tutorial/primer
Yes, I've been a bit stupid.
So I'm going to redefine that page's purpose: Let's do what I said we'd do, but let's consider it a primer for people (like me) needing to fully wrap their heads around the implications of the instancing system and interface.

Instancing: A wiki experiment.
On the wiki, I've thrown up my bare-bones instancing plan for Uru. As that page says, my goal was not to hunker down in solitude and emerge weeks later with a final finished scheme that accommodates every possibility. My goal was to create the bare minimum number of rules that might possibly suffice...

Re: Funding the Shards
Here's an idea shard owners can use for some money: For whatever amount of money the shard admin desires, players may purchase a 100% complete Uru Prime for one of their players. Pay $10 (or whatever), and one of your players gets all clothing, all Yeesha pages, all doors opened, all Journeys touche...

Re: Zandi
Yeah, I posted about this on my now-mostly-inaccessible blog a few years ago. The pertinent stuff follows: Back around version 0.6 of Choru, there was a different version of Yeesha's opening speech. As the game took further shape, it was rerecorded with new information. But I've always loved the spe...
