Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
Even before Yeesha came along, the Art had a built-in mechanism to prevent some death links; if the spot you would've linked to is now home to a mountain or other object, you link to the nearest place that's not occupied. Given that, and given what else Yeesha Magic has accomplished, I don't think t...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)
Perhaps we should still have people start in the Cleft, but I still think we need an opt-out tutorial mode that goes until the player has picked up their KI and learned to use all the essential D'ni technology in the game.

Sure. It can come in the retail box that people buy, right?realXCV wrote:We could also create a game manual that explains all of this.

Enough "rough ideas" like that, and you might just someday get your own forum to—OH WAIT. -_-

Re: Zandi
Y'know, before Ubisoft meddled with Uru, Jeff Zandi was voiced by Jeff Zandi. If some fan addition requiring Zandi was super-awesome (I mean like Cyan-quality), the fans were super-organized and polite and not at all crazy, and they asked Rand really, really nicely, maybe someday in the far future t...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Wow, I'm an idiot. I didn't think about how exactly that describes the Nexus. It looks completely different in my head. And the Nexus doesn't use a weight plate. And by "lock it open" I meant physically restrain the book from closing. But yes, you're right. To be fair, I think I came up with that id...

Re: Where to Begin (The Game)
If this is truly in our hands, we need to take a good hard look at making some decisions that Cyan could never have made. The beginning of the game is a good one. Cyan is intent on dropping you into a world and letting you figure stuff out. That's their aesthetic, and it worked great in Myst and Riv...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Back in the day, I came up with a complicated contraption they could've put in the Relto hut. You stand on a panel, a jukebox sort of thing with opens up, you choose a book, it opens up flat on the contraption in front of you, you link, and then when your weight is gone the panel lifts up and the wh...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Hmm. The view opposing mine appears to be widerspread than I thought. I could be wrong. In either case, though, realtime is just simply not feasible, with the possible exception of tiny Ages like Relto that could possibly feasibly be loaded in memory at all times. We at least need to FIRST get prere...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
the Myst Linking Book displays all of the structures that Atrus built on the island It does. All Myst Linking Books we've ever seen were activated AFTER construction on Myst was finished. Further, BoT I'm hesitant to consider anything in the novels, even the BoD example that supports my theory, as ...
