Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
I don't think the state of linking panel movies ever needs to change, unless it's on a new linking book. My understanding is that canon Linking Books always show the Age as it was when the Linking Book was activated . So unless we create a new linking book to a location, it should only display the b...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
How many points ? Err, I dunno. A good amount. http://smileys.75thtrombone.com/arianna.gif One per polygon in the avatar, perhaps? I don't know. When you link to your Relto (with the book), where should the particles go ? If you just make them go to where the book was, they will touch it from the w...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
I think clicking a closed book to add it to your Relto shelf is a terrific idea. It's intuitive, it makes sense, it's brilliant. Books that you don't "collect" in this way can be on pedestals where they're actually restrained from being taken, similar to how the books scattered around Ae'gura on KI ...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
You step 1 implies that if there's 300 linking poses and 30 avatar in an age, you have to compute 9000 models of points. Rebuttal 1 : There aren't 300 linking poses, there are (last I counted, which I admit has been a while) about four or five. Let's name them: Normally touching an LB on a pedestal...

Re: Cleaning Up Instancing
I think more than adhering to canon D'ni rules, we need to make this as dead simple as possible. I mean REAL, Apple-like simple. One of the many, many reasons Uru never took off is that you need seventeen manuals (which the game doesn't provide in a good way) to understand what's going on. We need t...

Re: Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
Regarding linking panels, I think a canon linking panel is NOT a realtime view of the Age. It is a view of the Age as it was when the linking book was activated . So a simple prerendered movie is actually more accurate. Regarding the linking particle effect, it needs to be cool, but more important i...

Visual effects: linking avatars and Linking Books
I would like to nominate myself as the director and head slave driver of the following additions to Uru once the source is released, which I have been rabid about since 2002: * Moving linking panels on Linking Books. * A visual particle effect on linking avatars. Now unfortunately, I am not a progra...
