Minkata Update 2021.03.27 (targeted for April 2021 MOULa update)

I spoke with some folks, and according to Someone Who Knows(tm), the butterflies simply do not exist anymore in the data for the Kadish 2nd vault in Myst Online. They should still exist in shards that are based on Uru: Path of the Shell or Complete Chronicles, or in offline versions of those.

They seem to have disappeared from Myst Online sometime in 2007, during an update sometime that year, and they have never been in MOULa (see Korovev's post above about them missing in 2010). There's no "enabling them in the vault" because the data is gone.

Over the course of the year Myst Online spent on GameTap, a number of things were clobbered or broken as Ages were updated:

• Kadish 2nd Vault Butterflies (removed)
• Cones in Ae'gura (removed)
• Neighborhood Clock animation is wrong (was changed from PotS and apparently never made right)
• Ahnonay Sphere 2 lighting (not correct)
• Er'cana textures (not correct in various places, messed up when the external path at the end was added)

The good news? Since Cyan has made the resources for Myst Online available to developers as of last year, we can try and fix these issues. Your memory of the missing butterflies has triggered some discussion about things that were broken along the way (producing the above list) and people seem motivated to address these things.

My Relto has them until the Great Crash of 2014. Even after the Great Crash I was still able to get the page and the butterflies still flit about my Relto today. A 2nd Avatar got the page - maybe 2018? So it hasn't been missing for me... maybe for new players since 2020?

Cones in Ae'gura were turned off very early in GameTap. We had them in the Public Beta but I believe they did not make it into the Official Opening. They caused lag and CYAN turned them off excepting the single "Memorial Cone" at the end of Takotah Alley.

Ahnonay 2nd Sphere lighting. From my earliest Ki Pics in GameTap it seems the same. Comparing Ki Pic of 2007 to one I have from 2020. Maybe it has always been wrong? But it's all we know.

There used to be actual butterflies flying around in the 2nd vault. You can see this in URU:CC or on DI.
The page still exists.

I too dispute your past timeline. We are NOT talking about the butterfly page. That never went away. Nor the butterflies from that page in Relto.
Second Kadish had butterflies flying around last year in Minkata shard and probably MOULA and Ghen. I would have noticed and did at the end of last year.If you base your repairs on a loss in 2007, you could very well be looking in the wrong place.

As several people have noted, we're not talking about a relto page. We are talking about actual butterflies, in the 2nd Kadish Vault.

Korovev already provided proof that they were missing in 2010. Based on that, I'm skeptical of claims that they've been on MOULa and Minkata since then, but I can be swayed with evidence. I'm afraid I just don't take people at the word for what they say they remember, I know too well how fallible the human mind is.

Maybe we can get someone from Cyan in here to settle this... they might also have the fix.

In my humble and perhaps incorrect opinion... Should we really waste the dedicated OpenURU programmers time trying to fix some VERY MINOR DETAIL (again my opinion) that we are unsure was ever in MOUL or MOULa? Put it back on a list and when everything else is just flowing along and the words "New Age" are not an uncommon thing - then maybe someone will volunteer time to look into it.
If this sounds a bit harsh well it is how I feel, and several others who aren't as rude as I am. It is a free game and happily still survives. Please enjoy it and allow the volunteers to decide how to spend their precious time.

How do you propose they were present in these places when the butterflies are not even present in the Kadish game data files? I can assure you that they have not been modified in at least five years.

Are we allowed to port CC assets to MOUL ? I got the CC butterflies extracted and in their own PRP. It's still in the CC format but Transfusion should be able to handle it.

I asked Chogon about whether there were strong feelings about it. He indicated that since most of the Uru releases were so close that he didn't feel there would be issues migrating asset features from CC to MOUL.

It would be a different story in moving assets from other Myst releases into MOUL. That would require specific authorization from Cyan, if they were willing to give it.

Hey, just so you guys know, at the Watcher's Pub the textures for "Share Book" and the Yeesha symbol on the Er'cana and Ahnonay Cathedral books are backwards on the in-age objects themselves (i.e. not the GUI pop-ups). You have to look kind of close in first person to notice it but right now they are:

Oh, also you can notice the thumbs going the wrong way in relation to the pop-up.

In addition to this, one of the five hanging lamps on the top floor doesn't have a swinging animation like the other ones do. Wow, I'm kinda pedantic, but I insist you guys know regardless of what you do with said info. lol

Good to see all the banners back though, and the unusable button dark!
