Yep, OK, I guess I didn't realize that particular detail, but I can (mostly) see the logic in it. And the theory in the follow-up edit is almost certainly true.

But, at the risk of going off at a bit of a tangent, If you get a buddy message from someone who isn't currently on your buddy list then you don't really have a way to reply to that message, without adding them to your buddy list, which may not be something you want to do.

[May split this off as a separate subject, since it's beginning to sound like a "feature request"]

Yes, I think that is outside the scope of this change. Formerly you did not have any way to reply at all. With this improvement you can either add the person as a buddy (temporarily if you like) or if you feel you were being spammed you could directly put the person on your ignore list.

Minkata shard downtime Tuesday 1/24/2012 8pm US/Mountain

Post by rarified »

Time for another update. Assuming the final client checks out, I'll take Minkata down at 8pm tonight for the update. Should only take 15-30 minutes.

Minkata Shard Update 01/24/2012

Post by rarified »

A game and server update was installed tonight. We expect this to be the last update before Cyan picks up the current updates to Minkata for inclusion for the next update to MOULa.

Changes in this update:
  • Game information on a PC is now stored in a folder named Uru Live Minkata Shard
  • Additional logging is now being recorded
  • From CWalther:
Relto books will open to last page viewed
  • From D'Lanor:
    The Minkata Sparklie fix!
  • From Cyan:
A "Donate" button has been added to the game startup window
  • From A'moaca':
A set of internal fixes to the MOSS server (not user visible)
New or fixed features that require testing:
  • Look for the Minkata sparklie! It has been turned on for this occasion.
  • The new folder that stores game information on your computer means that you will need to set any configuration information (Graphics or Audio settings for example) again when starting the Minkata client for the first time. If you had the game save your login credentials, you will need to enter these again (just once).
  • The additional logging information is stored in a folder in My Documents\Uru Live Minkata Shard\Log on Windows XP or earlier, or in Documents\Uru Live Minkata Shard\Log on Windows 7. These files will grow over time, and older ones should be cleared out regularly (perhaps once a week). Keep the most recent of these files in case you encounter a problem and are asked to send the log files in. In addition to the currently generated log file UruLiveYYMMDD.Live.log files, there will be a set of files with names like Python.0.log in the Log folder. The numbers of the older files are incremented by one every time the game is started (so Python.0.log is renamed Python.1.log and a new Python.0.log file is created). When cleaning the Log folder, keep those files whose name ends with .0.log
  • The books on the Relto bookshelf should now remember the last page that was open in the book when it was last shelved, and reopen to that page.
  • If so inclined, feel free to exercise the Donate button on the game start window to donate to CAVCON.
The enhanced logging is not a feature that will be passed to Cyan for MOULa, it is for use on the Minkata shard to help diagnose problems during testing.

Thanks again for the help.

Edit: Added the Minkata sparklie fix after verifying it was present.

How about the Minkata spark, since Cyan has pushed D'Lanor's fix to MOULSCRIPT?
The music is reversible, but time is not.

I believe the Minkata sparklie also requires an updated PRP file which we did not get in the update from Cyan, nor can we redistribute it. You'll have to wait for the Cyan MOULa update.

Actually the way Chogon has implemented the Minkata spark fix should make it work with the Python component alone. Without its prp component there is still a minor flaw though: It skips an initialization check which could make the spark do that book flash thing when you walk through it, even if you already have it. That would happen once upon every reload.

The prp component, to give credit where it is due, is the same fix that was submitted by Robert the Rebuilder and which Cyan was unable to use because it is not part of their own build process. This prp fix would have worked 100% with the old Python code that was in use when this spark was first introduced during the GameTap period. Since then however the Python code had been revised which is why an additional change was required there.

Then it should be in the update. I'll have to try turning the sparklie on tomorrow.

Thanks, D'Lanor!

I believe users should be able to simply copy the "Init" folder from their current "Documents\Uru Live" folder into "Documents\Uru Live Minkata Shard" to recover graphics and audio settings, although it's likely that cached login credentials will still need to be re-entered on first use.

Along those same lines, if you took pictures of your avatar(s) for the log in screen, you'll need to copy the Avatars folder over to the Uru Live Minkata Shard folder. Note: the file numbers are your KI numbers, so you could pick out the ones that are just for the shard.
