Afraid it didn't work - I updated to version 87, closed the game down and then clicked on the updated uruexplorer.exe and got "failed to launch patcher". I'll reboot and check again to be really sure.

Edited: yup, rebooted and tried again - sorry, rarified!

As of Dec 19, Norton is flagging Minkata URU Launcher with: "SOLAR.heuristic Very High Risk Trojan!!! Turns out SOLAR.heuristic is one of the new Norton AI programs that says something looks like a trojan. If you say run the program anyway, it doesn't do it again next time you run.

People still tolerate Norton????
But, seriously, a lot of AV programs will tend to distrust applications that try to download new versions of themselves or that spawn other threads that download something. With new Uru clients, these AV programs don't have a known signature to trust, so false positives like this are common.

Re: Norton

Just wanted to add that I don't have a way that I know of to add our software to a "whitelist" for Norton from our end.

Hopefully as you say, if you accept our install once, later installations will not be flagged. I'm cautious about hoping for that though, as it may again get suspicious if the binary code changes as it does each update.

Avast holds up execution the first time with a new update, then approves it and it runs.

I don't recommend Snortin' Norton. I wonder if Peter Norton has the same attitude about his old company and product as John McAfee has about McAfee: "I take it off." "It's too annoying."

I think AVs would be a lot less distrusting of us if we actually signed the executables. Unfortunately, in my case, I don't think I can pass some of the ID requirements of more reputable CAs (they ask for about six forms and one of them is usually a phone bill, of which I have none). You also have to be careful to get a code signing certificate that doesn't have the "Lifetime Signing" property enabled (StartSSL, which I use for the GoW, has this bug enabled). That causes the signature to expire when your certificate expires (in 1-2 years)
