Minkata Shard Update Friday April 12, 2013 [Minkata.77]

Plans are underway to push another update to Minkata tonight, so this is advance notice I may be bouncing the server tonight.

I'm planning to do the update around 8pm US/MDT (8pm KI time).

You won't need to do anything other than log in after the server is back up to obtain the update.

Update: Here are some particulars

This is a moderate update to the game client. The new client is marked Minkata.77.

Changes in this update:
  • From Hoikas:
    1. fix the issue that quick mouse moves while walking/looking by mouse could get the cursor out of the window and break the continuous turning PR #21, H'uru PR #221
  • From boq:
    1. Fix remote code execution through Python.Cheat and Python.RunFile PR #24, H'uru PR #218
    New or fixed features that need testing:
    • Code that has been changed on Minkata but not yet incorporated into MOULa is still present in this release (i.e. Physics fixes, Quab fixes, and removal of proprietary video player code). This is a final iteration of testing this large update to MOULa before Cyan picks up the changes. It is essential that we uncover any issues with the code before the handoff to avoid having Cyan spend time reverting MOULa back. In that situation we would be wasting some of the Cavcon fund due to having to back out (and resubmit) the changes
    • How to test:
      - Make sure that moving your computer's mouse cursor into and out of the client window now behaves like any normal Windows program (your cursor should no longer be held captive by the game client)
      - Unless you forewarn me, don't try to do anything to confirm or exercise the exploit bug. I'll work with the developers to confirm this fix.

The list of things to be tested (i.e. accumulated differences to MOULa), as usual, is under Minkata Shard: Contributions under Test on the OU wiki.

Keep in mind that more important than slavishly following the testing instructions there (still welcome, but we have already done that ourselves) is to
  • play the game as you normally would (ideally, if you have time, from the beginning with a new avatar)
  • try crazy unexpected things in the areas affected by the updates.

Just thought I'd mention that there ARE people testing the April 12th update. Usually, by this time, someone has begun a thread to discuss issues, but we haven't seen any, yet, so no one is posting. I know we need to hit this one hard, test as much as possible and have as many testers as possible and I'm afraid if they don't see any activity here on the forum, they might not join in. So... here's the activity. :P

Feel free to use this thread to arrange to meet others for sphere turning, pellet dropping, door runs, etc. 8-)

Hope to see you all in the cavern. :D

Ricard posted on MOULa that he is having trouble run-jumping and, specifically, making the Gahreesen jump. I just went in to test that. The run-jump works for me and I can successfully make the Gahreesen jump. It quickly was in and out for me so I didn't even check my KI to see if anyone was on. Sorry! Thanks for starting the thread. :)

Thanks, Tai' - I didn't think of posting, as it all seems to be working! :lol:

I've been testing too (including using two avvies on different laptops, to check on the quabs :geek: ). I've submitted one ticket but only for something that Charura previously reported in Gehn, namely getting stuck on the fish tank in Teledahn, so probably nothing to do with the latest updates.

I've made all my jumps with no problem, including Gahreesen. :D

I have been testing for a while now and as far as I've experienced the update everything feels and works absolutely stable and perfect ... :P

So, to be a bit more precise, I've been working my way partially through the PhysX update list, esp. Er'cana, the harvester and the before stuckness around the ovens etc. which is totally gone, and I've been testing stuff in Kemo and Gira and in Teledahn, I've been kicking everything I could kick on Relto and the leaves in Kadish, haha ... and I've been working/playing my way through the 'Minkata Shard: Contributions' list ... :)

Yeah, and I've also seen Ricard's note on the MOUL forums and did jumps everywhere, in Kemo, in Gahreesen and everywhere I've been and I have no problem with that at all ... The chair ride in Ahnonay works perfectly well ... The linking book in the fish tank in Sharper’s office in Teledahn, going to the city office, has no share symbol in the close-up view ...

The cursor is still free to move outside of the window like in Windows, means the 'waltz' still works lol, that is moving the cursor completely to the left or right side and then the avatar is turning its rounds ... :mrgreen:

Switching fullview and windowed mode works perfectly well in both directions and with launching Uru in both modes ... I can view my pictures in Minkata's directory with IrfanView and thus with any other picture viewer I suppose ... and I've been testing to sit in front of my Relto shelf and then trying to click on any book which works nicely, means I get my hotspot and then in this case of course the avatar stands up to put itself in front of the shelf to link somewhere ...

Ok, I think, that is it so far ... I have 5 avatars available and I think I won't set up a new one, but I'll go on testing every now and then, and for special tests like Ricard's issue etc. which can be done in a minute or two, and I'll keep myself ready for any test runs, parties, door runs etc. ... Yeah, see ya all anytime soon on the Shard ... /waves ... :D

wow, janaba as thorough as always!

I created a new avvie, AcornMinkata for update .74 and have completed the game with her (and her friend Acorn, on my old laptop) apart from door runs and GZ marker missions.

Does anyone think we should do a door run, just for sake of being thorough? I see Tai is suggesting her thread as a way of organising ourselves

I just tested it and can run-jump just fine, including to the Gahreesen door, on both my computers.

Ricard, so when you try to jump while running, you get a walk-jump? Or no jump at all? Are you walking/running by mouse or by keyboard? Have you tried with a new avatar, in case something’s messed up with the control configuration of your current one?

(I have no solution for you, but maybe the additional information can narrow down the problem and give someone like Skoader a clue.)

Run jump works fine for me as well. So far everything is working as expected!
