Re: Loading screens

I'm gonna throw a wrench into the works and say, that I don't like the spinning dots, I even more disliked in prologue of just having a loading bar.

What I'd like to see, other than a bink video of the Age your linking to, which we all liked some back, but back on topic, how about this.
The screen dissolves into black, when unloading your Age, and fades in (using particles) a picture of the Age your linking to, when the Age is loaded, so is the entire image

Kinda like this video

Linking in would be similar to this

A treat

Does the fade in start as soon as the previous age is unloaded or only when the age is completely loaded ?

Seeing those videos are making my mind itch.

I *swear* I've seen an effect like that already in one of the Myst games. Perhaps I've seen too much Myst-related videos, or (more recently) SG1.

Though I really like the idea, the particle effect may be taxing on some of the older video cards (unless it was pre-rendered and setup as a video - I don't suppose the MO:UL loading image did something similar?). It would be cooler to see that as an actual link effect, but that will definitely be taxing on both video and CPU.

It couldn't be prerendered as that would need too many videos. Just think of a link to Relto: One video for the empty Relto, another for the Relto with page X, another for Relto with page Y, another for the Relto with page X and Y, another for the Relto with page Z...
