I was referring to wireless internet
Re: D'niWeb
Um, internet does not refer to information. It refers to an inter-connected network of computers. Information can be stored in locations on the internet, but the internet is most definitely not information.
Re: D'niWeb
Current debate: what is internet and how it works?

Unless the connection and computers are just information, hmm?teedyo wrote:Um, internet does not refer to information. It refers to an inter-connected network of computers. Information can be stored in locations on the internet, but the internet is most definitely not information.
But yes, I was overly general there.
My point still remains, you can connect computers (which, by the way, you are connecting the information streams, not the physical computers) through whatever medium you desire.

Heh, it's funny this should come up.
I'm currently working on an addition to ChloesHoodOffice that allows just what we're talking about. The Desktop computer in the office, in future additions, will have a GUI associated with it, that when the user sits at the desk, they can turn on the monitor and at that point a GUI pops up for them. This GUI is a desktop with multiple icons and folders. When the user clicks on a folder, it brings up a second set of buttons and information (similar to how the Nexus works) and when a user clicks on icon it brings minimizes Uru, and opens up the users default internet browser bringing them to whatever website is associated with the button in the GUI that is associated with it . So if you click on a GUI button that IC looks like a folder, it brings up a second screen. If you click on GUI button that IC looks like a document Icon it minimizes uru and brings up that web page.
Its currently only in the build phase (i've got the web icons working, and it minimizes uru and brings up my default browser with the right web page, currently just the DRC website, Guild of Writers, and Guild of Messangers just fine.
Also, as side note, the ICness of going to a "real world" website is kept by the fact that the computer in question is in a D'ni Neighborhood in the cavern AND the explanation in a journal in that same hood that a generator is powering the computer, while the internet access for the computer was "hacked" via the D'ni KI.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Re: D'niWeb
You still loose the ICness because once Uru is minimized, what remains is a small button in the taskbar. How do you explain the "UruExplorer" without going OOC?
Re: D'niWeb
The same way that you explain the "Explore Uru" in Relto's closet, (and its other mentions of Uru) or any of the "game settings" menus when you click on one of those. Certain times you need to break the ICness in order to get a job done. And as long as you do it briefly, and with an IC explanation (like being inside Relto's wardrobe or sitting at a computer terminal) then you're still keeping a bit of the ICness of Uru.realXCV wrote:You still loose the ICness because once Uru is minimized, what remains is a small button in the taskbar. It's obviously one of those little internet Flash games with simplistic 2D graphics depicting an arcade shoot-em-up through the D'ni caverns.realXCV wrote:You still loose the ICness because once Uru is minimized, what remains is a small button in the taskbar.
