Avatar Clothing, hair, etc. requests

Post by Gehn, lord of ages »

I figured that we should try to get an estimate of what people want in terms of new clothing, hair, etc., so that people who can make them know what will be especially appreciated. :D

Try to stay sensible, practical, and civil.

I'll start off (my knowledge may be a little outdated as I've only played the offline versions):
D'ni-ish pants. Nothing really fits with the Kahlo Pub Jacket.
A business suit or tuxedo, for formal walks through Ae'gura.
[might have copyright issues] Exile and EoA shirts
A sombrero, cowboy, or Canadian Mountie type hat.
A bracelet or watch.
[something I want for David's Journey (as a reward piece of clothing, of course) and am not sure if I want to announce it - PM me if you think you can make it (it would be more complex than just a new shirt logo, about the difficulty of the watch)]
Kim-Jon Il glasses
... that's all I can think of now

Now you've done it,

Now all the ladies will be posting, heh he

A side note, a query that I put forward as something to think about, cloth physics may not be implemented beyond what is already in the game, so ll you ladies wanting long flowing hair, maybe in braids flying about, can think again.

I'll still be pushing physics as a key component for the future of the game

 yep.

Maybe people should mark which requests would need more physics work. That way, if more physics is not implemented, people won't try to make then useless items.

Better hair is always in there. :) The flowing hair seen in other games is a big source of poor performance. :( So, as much as I like the idea, it is not something I expect without significant changes to the game engine, which means any time soon.

I think anything flowing (hair, skirts, strings on backpacks, etc.) are possible in MOOS. Look at Minkata flags. But add that to an AV and the calcs go way up. However Havok and DirectX/OpenGL are handling it in other games. :|

I push the idea of better hair and clothes because I see how popular they are in other games (SL's single largest industry - clothes and hair). I would like a sense of how difficult it will be to add such a highly popular feature to MOOS. I see it as complex. I am told it will likely be pretty easy on the MOUL forum... but, I'm not buying into 'easy' yet. :?

Also, the AV edit in MOUL is pretty primitive. The one in SL is over the top. (Give me a portrait and profile picture of someone and I'll build their double in SL right down to the moll on the cheek). The Relto closet is a pretty limited inventory tool. So, various glasses, ear rings, nose rings, etc., etc. are going to be a problem. With 14,000+ items in my SL inventory… and inventory management being a standing joke in SL… I can see where this could head. Many of my posts are to get people thinking along these lines and deciding what limits we may need to adopt and what changes might be required. How important are these features, how hard are they to implement and do we need a major rewrite? Is the benefit worth the cost and time?

Implementing clothing isn't appreciably harder to do in Uru then it is anywhere else Nalates.

Probably the biggest thing that people haven't thought of is that the reward clothing is global, While I do put up with bloated texture caches in There once I move on to a new area there goes a Gig of trash files kicked to the curb so to speak.

But as high as Uru pushes the polygons clothing designers will have to face the fact that getting your clothing labeled as "Reward Clothing" so everyone gets it is well a reward. In Uru the Silk screens outnumbered the real clothes because they are small, easy to apply, and compact nicely. Non-reward Clothing I hope will be saved as a temp file loaded as you enter a Age, Save it if you add the clothes to relto, or delete it after you logout. However it goes I am really hoping no one decides to just dump clothing into the closet until someone makes a better closet. Somewhere between SL's cardboard cutout shopping malls and There's "Online Store"/"Try It" system is a happy medium that might work for Uru. Restore a couple D'ni stores maybe, or as a nightmare to clothing designers and money traders in other games add a KI command that grabs the entire outfit someone is wearing.

If clothing design got really out of hand I could see the only ability really needed as the ability to ignore non-reward clothing seeing instead some default reward clothes. Until it hits that point though the clothes you see not the clothes your keeping need to be kept somewhere where they are easy to dispose of.

I just wanted to say that I'm one of those at the other end of the spectra :) I don't want anything new, IMO the avatar in URU is the best there is , and I have been out there and tried  . In fact I'm one of those that never change outfit and I kinda want others to do the same so I can find my friends by sight :D I always felt safe when finding i e a guy in green t-shirt and green hat in GoG bevin (Ural), or a girl all dressed in blue with long blond hair =(granelda). I'm sure you'll can guess what colour I use... :D

Every time I logged in to MOUL, I changed clothes. Seemed like the right thing to do.. get up, shower, brush, put on a new set of duds. ;) With the few things available, I was wearing stuff out, just going through the laundry cycle. :| Then there's the selection... anything NOT Myst/Uru related didn't get worn, ie Gametap, Turner etc, and some, more obscure stuff I didn't recognize as I was pretty new to it all.

With non Myst/Uru stuff gone there are some empty hangers, so I opt for more jacket/hoodie type things. I wore the RIVEN T alot, just changed colors, but it is a T. So being able to apply more Myst/Uru 'emblems' to Ts and Jackets would work for me.
Emblems like;
'Bahro Supporter' printed around a Bahro cave door.
'Cleft Jumper' around pic of crack in Relto when the journey is finished.
'The Called', yep, you guessed it 'Airstream'
Even a few from time honored game titles. Exile, To D'ni, TPotS, ABM even. Short names or acronyms. Don't even spell out TPotS for a T or jacket.

Anyway, I will be following ametist's idea this next time, so that friends can tell when I'm around, by the outfit.... of course, that's AFTER I try a bunch of new stuff out to find that set that says 'AlK'. :D
No, that's not 'Alky' .... it's 'Al Kay'. Puhleeese !

There are some rather nice Uru-related designs for hoodies and t-shirts in There (if I dare mention it here ;) ).

For example, the Relto T-shirt was given out to Uru people on the day trips. Another proclaims 'The Bahro are my friends'. These were done by members of The Meeting Place hood.

Nynaveve, the GoMa webmystress, has designed several shirts, such as 'Make it count' with its subtle white swirl inspired by the Tsogal/Delin doors.
